Well, here it is. My personal blog, For the Multitude. I can hear it already. You are probably thinking to yourself, “Why do we need another blog site? Aren’t enough blogs out there already? Couldn’t you find an existing one that would allow you express your opinion without starting something entirely new?”
To some extent you are correct. There are innumerable blogs out there today. In fact, there are entire blogs that deal with nothing but other blogs. These are valid questions and I hope that in the discussion that follows, I can answer some of them.
However, before we get too far, I suppose I had better introduce myself. My name is Dave Baylor. I am the host of this blog. I live in Anderson, IN with my wife and two sons – Bonnie, Joshua (10), and Michael (5). Over the past four years, my family and I have been on a journey with God. He has given our family a vision to serve Him by helping to equip the church in Africa. In 2004, we moved here from Detroit, MI so that I could finish my Master’s degree at Anderson University School of Theology. I graduated in May 2008 with Master of Theological Studies. At the same time, our family was in conversation with Church of God (Anderson) Global Missions regarding opportunities to serve. This discussion culminated with our family being commissioned for service at Kima International School of Theology located in Western Kenya. We are currently in the process of raising our funding with a target departure date of September 2009. This brings us to the first reason for a new blog. We are hoping that this blog will prove to be a valuable means for keeping all of our supporters up to date regarding our ministry plans and progress.
The second reason for publishing this blog has to do with its chosen title: For the Multitude. What is this “multitude” that the site is named after. The answer is in the subtitle of the site: Revelation 7:9-10. The “multitude” of which I speak is the multitude from every nation, tribe, people and tongue worshiping as one before the throne of God. That is the vision that every Christian should be working toward. To see the Church in all its fullness, with people from every nation, tribe, people, and tongue standing before Jesus worshiping Him forever.
It is my hope that this blog, in some small fashion, might bring this to fruition. In addition to the postings regarding my family’s ministry, I am hoping that this blog might become a discussion forum for the Church of God (Anderson) and others. Some of the topics of discussion will include missiology (theology of mission), preparation for cross-cultural ministry, leadership development, appropriate technology, happenings at the various Church of God theological institutions around the world, short term missions, and anthropological issues just to name few. Eventually, I hope that we rather than just myself, we could have a number of leaders contribute to the discussion by not only commenting on discussion threads, but starting them.
We all have much to learn and much to contribute. Come join in the discussion.
